Brownsville is entrenched in history

b palo alto battlefield img 4177By Carina A. Brunson

Growing up in the Valley, in Mission, I knew about some of the history of the region. My grandparents were farmers, and I knew how important that was to the community and I knew snippets of the importance to the Valley’s history. Being a Mission resident, I also knew a lot of the citrus industry and the vital role it played in the community’s history. In 2008, when I worked for the Progress Times and assisted with gathering history on the city for their Centennial Magazine the paper was producing, I learned a more in depth history of the City of Mission and could not believe how much I did not know.

This course was once considered a hidden gem. It is still a gem, but it is definitely not hidden. It also has some of the toughest holes you will find anywhere. It is a relaxing play, but do not get too relaxed because the layout can jump up and bite you. You need to be accurate on this scenic and fun-to-play course.

Making safer choices

WEB On The Road HeaderToday is a beautiful day. Even if it is raining, it is still a beautiful day - the farmers need the rain, our yards need the rain. November 18, 2020 - Rina's Ramblings

rina rambling 4139The Valley has seen some great weather these past two weeks. So, I took the opportunity to visit parts of Brownsville I have never been to.

I visited the Old Cemetery, Historic Brownsville Museum, Stillman House, Fort Brown, Palo Alto Battlefield, and stopped at a few other places to get some pictures. It was so nice outside that if I did get a little warm, I was easily cooled off with the next breeze.

Mid Valley Golf

golf harlingen country club 2Harlingen Country Club

A beauty of a layout with a mixture of challenges, Harlingen Country Club is the shot-maker's course. Sure, there are holes where you can grip it and rip it but the subtle elevation changes, the twists and turns along with the well-placed hazards makes this the perfect golf-thinkers course.
