City of Edinburg ACE Center announces extended hours

ACE Open Hours webEDINBURG - To make cultural experiences and creative opportunities more accessible to the community, the City of Edinburg Arts, Culture, and Events (ACE) Center is excited to announce new extended hours. Beginning Monday, June 1, the ACE Center will now be able to welcome the public to the facility Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

DHR Health encourages community to recognize the signs of stroke

BE FAST ENGLISH webIn recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month last month, the DHR Health Neuroscience Institute is urged the community to learn vital stroke prevention and response strategies. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Every year, approximately 795,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke. This equates to one stroke occurring every 40 seconds.

The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6, 2026, at the Edinburg Arts, Culture, and Events (ACE) Center, located at 315 W. McIntyre St.

Renaissance Cancer Foundation to host 6th Annual Purple Project 5K to commemorate “National Cancer Survivors Month”

The event is scheduled to take place at 8 a.m. on June 27, 2026, at the Firemen’s Park located at 201 N. 1st Street in McAllen. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Renaissance Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization of DHR Health dedicated to helping local cancer patients facing financial hardship in their journey towards healing. Assistance programs include financial and transportation assistance, as well as free wigs and breast prostheses.

STC hosts 17th Annual South Texas Ceramic Showdown

South Texas College invites students and the community to the 17th annual two-day ceramics event on June 10 and 11.

The South Texas College Art Department and Library Art Gallery will present the 17th Annual South Texas Ceramic Showdown: “Finding the Right Combination,” featuring the work of ceramic artists Laura Caroline Casas of Youngsville, North Carolina and Andy Rangel of Brownsville.

STHS and Prominence Health team up to help older adults prevent dangerous falls

Falls among older adults are on the rise nationwide, posing a significant threat to health and independence.

Each year, more than 1 in 4 Americans aged 65 and older experiences a fall, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), leading to approximately 3 million emergency department visits and more than 41,000 fall-related deaths annually.

New exhibits open at Texas Quilt Museum

quilt 1 webLA GRANGE, TEXAS — The Texas Quilt Museum focuses on history and honor with their spring/summer exhibits. They include the juried exhibit My America…What It Means to Me to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday; Hooked On Presidents, which features hand-hooked rug portraits of U.S. leaders; and Old Quilts Made New, a passion project for Teresa Wong.

They will be on display April 30-August 29, 2026. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

STHS Behavioral to host educational webinar on how therapy supports mental well-being

If you’ve ever experienced a mental health challenge, you are not alone.

More than one in five U.S. adults lives with a mental illness, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), while one in 20 experiences a serious mental illness. In addition, approximately 16% of children aged 6 to 17 are affected by a mental health disorder.

Folkloric heritage takes center stage at “MATICES 2026” in Edinburg

Performances are set for May 8 and 9, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Events (ACE) Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.

STHS to launch Cinco de Mammo initiative

STHS will launch their Cinco de Mammo events this May. The initiative includes discounted screenings and Mammo Mondays. Mammo Mondays will be hosted at each participating facility on designated dates throughout the month.

In the United States, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, making it the second leading cause of cancer related death among women.
