MILLINGTON, Tenn. — From the Texas Citrus Fiesta to Boca Chica Beach, the Navy will bring over 70 Sailors for the inaugural Rio Grande Valley Navy Week from January 24 to 31. The Navy is partnering with the cities of Mission, McAllen, Edinburg and Brownsville to engage with Texas communities through a week-long series of performances, educational events and service projects.
The Mission Historical Museum (MHM) gladly presents a special screening of the 1979 western film: She Came to the Valley. The film is based on the novel written by local author, Cleo Dawson.
Quinta Mazatlán invites the community to explore the hidden world of one of South Texas’s most fascinating and threatened species during a special Thursday Night Live presentation, “Texas Tortoise Ecology in the Rio Grande Valley,” with wildlife scientist Camryn Kiel, on Thursday, January 29, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The Native Plant Project is pleased to welcome Bradley Christoffersen, Ph.D., as its featured guest speaker for this month’s meeting. Dr. Christoffersen is a professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a leading researcher of the Tamaulipan thorn forest.

Vinyl Spin is a high-energy, crowd engaging band based in the Rio Grande Valley. They are proudly known as “Your Everything Band.” They were last year’s Rock N’ Roll Band of the Year and will be taking the Valley Star Awards stage to show you why they won.

It’s been an amazing week. We were able to be at the Ron Hoover Open House last week and met some wonderful Winter Texans. We also had drawings for Valley Star Awards tickets at the event. I was so happy to see y’all out there enjoying the sun, food and entertainment.
The community is invited to “Exploring the Olmecs” on Saturday, January 17, at International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) to learn about Olmec civilization and celebrate the sweet sixteenth birthday of the Olmec Head sculpture found on museum grounds, Colossal Head 8 (Cabeza Olmeca).
