Tim Hadler, a native of Washington State, grew up on a farm with a love of music. He often jokes that his first audience were the cows he milked. Hadler moved to Nashville shortly after graduating to pursue a career in music.
Listening to his music, his voice is reminiscent of the old-time country legends and is only part of the reason why he does a tribute show to Williams. In a news article, Tim said, “It’s America’s music. I love it.” He added that his tribute to Williams has been a ‘learning experience and a good time.’
The La Joya ISD Folklorico program is celebrating their 40th anniversary with a great show by holding three performances this weekend. The La Joya High School Grupo Folklorico “Tabasco” and Mariachi “Los Coyotes” presents: Orgullo y Tradicion 2022.
Mission Bell’s Hall was full of clapping, cheering, singing, and music throughout the day during this year’s Entertainers Showcases. The showcases highlight entertainment that’s available to Valley activity directors throughout the Valley. This is the opportunity for activity directors to book well known entertainment and listen to some new entertainment as well that provide music for shows, dances, happy hours, and line dancing.
This year’s events saw some of the Valley’s favorites and had quite a few new groups and individuals too. All the entertainment received great feedback from the crowd. This is a show you will never see anywhere else.
Walking through the 36th annual RGV Woodcarvers Show this past weekend, it was clear that if you can envision it, someone can carve, sculpt, burn, paint or chip it into reality.
More than 150 pieces covering a wide spectrum of images and styles were on display over the weekend at the Nomad Shrine Club in Pharr. There were decoys, caricatures, walking canes, gourds, pens, candles and so much more as the carvers showed what can be done with wood.
Although he was in a brief retirement, Fred Renk is back at it this season. Due to the hundreds of phone calls received requesting the continuance of putting on the world class bloodless bullfights, Renk is proud to announce they will be coming out of retirement to re-open for at least two bullfights this season.
“For the last 20 years we have put on world class bloodless bullfights and will continue to do so as long as people want us,” said Renk. “We cannot turn them down.”
The Santa Maria Bullring is one of the only bullrings in 49 states. For now, the Renks, Fred and his wife Lisa, will be managing the events.
The nativity scene is near completion. The Elon Musk-like “fantasy rocketship,” with detailed Russian scrawling is done.
There are many more exquisitely detailed sculptures sprawled under the large tent at Sandcastle Village and Trail, located on West Ling Street in the entertainment district on South Padre Island. Better yet, as curator Lucinda Wierenga said, “it's under the ferris wheel across from Louie's Backyard.”
